Lucern

Lucern is an early Linux distribution.

You boot a verified live image, then install by having Spark pull a pinned set of packages from packages.lucern.org so those same versions are what you get on the next machine.

Checksum Install steps

It is early. There is no graphical installer.

Who

Lucern is for rebuilding a Linux install on purpose — same pin set whether that machine is a workbench or something you ship on. If you want a finished desktop with a one-click installer, this is the wrong page.

How

  1. 01 Boot

Boot the live ISO with UEFI (Secure Boot is unsupported).

  2. 02 Partition

Partition and mount a disk. The live environment is a root console.

  3. 03 Spark

Run Spark so it can reach packages.lucern.org and install the pinned packages. Spark does not copy the live system out of RAM.

  4. 04 Disk boot

Reboot from the disk alone. If the ISO is still attached, you will land in live again.

Proof

sha256
Get the image from lucern.org/download/iso and check the sha256 before you boot it. Wrong or debug files often fail UEFI even when the machine is set up correctly.
pin
Later package changes are named pins through photonctl (pin, then apply). This is not a rolling upgrade-everything distro.
other trees
Flare, Spark-test, and old Lumen images are different trees. Do not treat them as this live ISO.

FAQ

Is there an installer UI?

No. You partition and run Spark yourself.

Can I install offline?

No. Spark needs the network for packages.lucern.org.

Why am I still in the live environment after install?

The ISO is still in the boot order. Boot the disk only.

lucern.org/download/iso — check the sha256, then boot with UEFI.
